Former Belgium and Manchester City Defender Departs After Two Seasons
Kompany Left Anderlecht With 71 Matches, 12 Goals and 14 Assits
Former Manchester City and Belgium defender Vincent Kompany has left Anderlecht after two seasons as manager, the Belgian club announced on Wednesday.
Kompany, 36, returned to Anderlecht, the club where he began his professional career, in 2019. He led the team to the Belgian Cup in 2022, but they finished third in the league this season, 18 points behind champions Club Brugge.
“After careful consideration, I have decided to step down as head coach of RSC Anderlecht,” Kompany said in a statement. “It is not an easy decision, but I believe it is the right one for both myself and the club."
"I would like to thank the board, the players and the fans for their support during my time at Anderlecht,” he added. "I wish the club all the best for the future."
